Strange Creatures
Evolution proves to be more powerful a force than conscious intention.
As a result, this work has an organic mind of its own.
It began as an exploration of the strangeness of the natural world: the bizarre creatures that actually exist, defying fiction, truly being as weird as any human imagination could concoct.
Originally the Darwinistic journey of an imagined explorer, the words of this fictional journal started seeping onto the pages of the drawings.
The interweaving of imagination and a living, breathing reality combined into something new: an exploration of the subconscious and the evolution of the line from words into image.
As a journey is built of layers: of days, of miles, these images are the result of the layering of many cycles.
They began as very basic pencil drawings of interesting animals, which were then scanned, printed, drawn on again, scanned and printed in repetition.
In the process, as the line of unconscious inspiration is blurred, so is the line of the drawing itself: its origin and its completion.
